TIRE MAINTENANCE TIPS TO KEEP YOU ROLLING

There’s a LOT to know about tires – but Mopar® experts are here to help! Pump up your tire knowledge with these helpful tips and maintenance guides for a smoother, safer ride.

WHY YOU SHOULD EXAMINE WHEEL ALIGNMENT

Regular alignment inspections help make sure that your vehicle’s precisely calibrated steering and suspension maintain optimal performance, fuel economy and safety, while at the same time minimizing wear and tear on vital components. Even without nudging curbs or hitting potholes, the simple rigours of everyday driving can cause these systems to fall out of calibration – in the best case causing premature wear of steering and suspension components as well as your tires, and in the worst case making your vehicle unpredictable and unsafe as you travel down the road.

SIGNS OF WHEEL ALIGNMENT ISSUES

If you are experiencing any of the following, you may have an alignment issue and should book an appointment with your local Mopar® Service Experts for an alignment inspection to properly diagnose the problem:

  • Uneven tire wear
  • Drifting
  • Vibrations felt through the steering wheel
  • Steering wheel not centered, even though your car is driving straight

Of course, you can avoid alignment issues with regular inspections. Not only can they help ensure optimal safety, they can extend tire life and help maintain overall drivability.

THREE WARNING SIGNS OF THE WEAR

A quick visual inspection every year can help you see if your tires need replacing. By examining your tires for three common warning signs, you can help to ensure the continued safety and optimal performance of your vehicle.

INSPECT TREAD WEAR BAR

Tread wear bars, or tread indicator bars, are small, raised bars between the tread markings within the grooves of your tires. These indicators are designed to help you determine the health of your tires by showing you how much tire wear is occurring – as they wear down to the level of the tire tread, you can see that your tires need to be replaced.

VISUAL DAMAGE INSPECTION

Sometimes, the health of your tires is easy to assess just by looking. To make sure your tires are in good shape, look for visual signs of damage such as bald patches, evidence of tire wear on the sidewalls, foreign objects embedded in the tire, or anything else out of the ordinary.

EVALUATE TIRE AGE

Knowing the age of your tires can help you determine when it’s the right time to replace them – and did you know that important information about your tires is written on the tire itself?

Check your vehicle owner’s manual for additional replacement recommendations to help you stay on track, and visit Mopar.ca for more tips on how to read your tire’s sidewall information.

THE SCIENCE OF 7 DEGREES

Your new vehicle comes standard with all-season tires, which are great in most weather conditions. But when the temperature drops in the winter, the compounds that make up a typical all-season tire get hard and stiff. The result is less grip — even on dry pavement — which means less safety and performance.

When the temperature drops to 7°C or below, the superior adhesion of winter tires begin to make a big difference in any weather condition: They are specially formulated with rubber compounds designed to stay soft, pliable, grip better in the cold and reduce vehicle stopping distances by up to 25 percent — performance that can make the difference between a close call and calling for a tow.

THE BENEFITS OF WINTER TIRES

Thanks to special materials and precision design, winter tires are more effective than all-season tires in deep snow and on ice. Deeper tread depths reduce snow buildup on the tire and increased biting edges help maintain traction in slippery conditions.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Maintaining the recommended tire pressure is an important part of regular vehicle maintenance. When you keep your tires inflated according to the manufacturer’s guidelines and your owner’s manual, they last longer, give greater fuel economy, and help your vehicle move safely.

Check out our short video about “Why Tire Pressure Matters” for even more information about the importance of proper tire pressure.

Your tires contain a lot of useful information – if you know where to look! Visit our helpful Tire Services page on Mopar.ca for a detailed list of the types of information your tire’s sidewall markings contain.
