Leading the Way

It’s harder to lead than to follow, but then again, following was never the plan. The Pacifica delivers 2 highly advanced powertrains and unprecedented levels of innovation and technology.

The Pacifica offers the first-ever hybrid minivan27† and its gas counterpart beats all competitors in power, towing27 and highway fuel economy.29 It also comes standard with a Class-Exclusive 9-speed automatic transmission27 to further cement its place at the front.

3.6L Pentastar VVT V6

The award-winning 3.6L PentastarTM VVT V6 has been redesigned and refined with enhanced variable-valve timing technology and strategic weight reduction to increase efficiency and performance.

The next-generation Pentastar engine equips the Pacifica with 287 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, up to 1,633 kg (3,600 lb) towing capacity27 and highway fuel economy as efficient as 8.4 L/100 km
(34 mpg),29 leading the class in all 3 categories. Engineering refinements also boost torque delivery in the critical 2,000 to 4,000 rpm range – an engine speed drivers see most frequently – for a more responsive drive.

3.6L Pentastar VVT V6 Hybrid

This specially adapted version of the upgraded PentastarTM engine, combined with the Single Input – Electrically Variable Transmission (SI-EVT) featuring dual electric drive motors, makes the Pacifica Hybrid the industry’s first electrified minivan.27† Producing a total system output of 260 horsepower, intelligent technology seamlessly transfers between hybrid and electric modes based on how you’re driving. It can travel up to 48 kilometres solely on electric power28 while producing zero emissions. If the system determines the driver requires additional power, the gas engine is automatically engaged.

Whether you’re driving in the city or on the highway, it’s about providing maximum efficiency and capability to cover daily lower-range driving tasks such as running errands and carpooling, all within a single charge. Regenerative braking helps recharge the battery during deceleration. The 16-kWh lithium-ion battery can be fully charged in as little as 2 hours and is neatly packaged under the 2nd-row floor.

Canadian Fuel Economy: Changes From Natural Resources Canada

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has recently introduced changes to the way they calculate fuel economy ratings. Beginning with 2015 model year cars and trucks, NRCan’s new approach will involve a new and more rigorous 5-cycle test method, replacing the previous 2-cycle method. It now accounts for air conditioner usage, cold temperature operation, and driving at higher speeds with more rapid acceleration and braking to better represent actual driving conditions.
